We are building a greenhouse on the school campus (for both primary and secondary students) in Chalhuanca to provide fresh vegetables for the school meals. This village is above 14,000 feet, higher than anywhere in the continental United States. It is an amazing journey to get there. The need is great here. Much of the time, the parents are far away shepherding their alpaca. Nothing can grow at this altitude.

We provided the materials for the roof, windows and door to this new greenhouse. These were given only after the foundation and walls of the greenhouse were completed with voluntary labor from members of the community. They have sent four reports detailing how they will construct and manage the greenhouse moving forward. Urban Angels has stipulated that student leaders be intimately involved in the planning and management process for this project. Students will learn farming and agriculture as they are integral to working the crops in the greenhouse.

We are very excited to start more projects in this village next year.
